ASME B18.16.3M:1998 pdf free download DIMENSIONAL REQUIREMENTSFOR PRENAILING-TORQUE TYPE STEEL METRIC HEX NUTSAND HEX FLANGE NUTS
1 INTRODUCTORY NOTEs1.1 Scope
1.1.1 This Standard covers the complete gencral and di-mensional data for metric prevailing-torque hex nuts asshown in Table 1 and hex flange nuts as shown in Table 2.1.1.2 The inclusion of dimensional data in thisStandard is not intended to imply that all of the nut sizesin conjunction with the various options described hereinare stock items. Purchasers are requested to consult withmanufacturers concerming lists of stock production pre-vailing-torque hex and hex flange nuts.
1.2 Nut Designs and Property Classes
1.2.1 There are three basic designs for prevailing-torque nuts:
(a)all-metal,one-piece construction nuts which de-rive their prevailing-torque characteristics from con-trolled distortion of the nut thread and/or body;
(b) metal nuts which derive their prevailing-torquecharacteristics from the addition or fusion of a non-metallic insert, plug, or patch in their threads;
(c) top insert, two-piece construction nuts which de-rive their prevailing-torque characteristics from an insert,usually a full ring of nonmnetallic material, located andretained in the nut at its top surface.
1.2.2 The two nut designs defined in (a) and (b)ofpara.1.2.1 have the sarne dimensional requirements andare designated“all-metal type”in Tables 1 and 2. Nutdesign (c) of para.1.2.1 is designated “top insert type””in Tables 1 and 2.
1.2.3 Property classes 5,9,and 10 nuts have me-chanical and performance properties as specified inASME B18.16.1M.Mechanical and PerformanceRequirenents for Prevailing-Torque Type Steel MetricHex Nuts and Hex Flange Nuts.
