ASME B16.22:2001 pdf free download WROUGHT COPPER AND COPPER ALLOY SOLDER JOINT PRESSURE FITTINGS
1 sCOPE1.1 General
This Standard establishes specifications for wroughtcopper and wrought copper alloy, solder-joint,seamlessfittings,designed for use with seamless copper tubeconforming to ASTM B 88 (water and general plumbingsystems),B 280 (air conditioning and refrigerationservice),and B 819 (medical gas systems),as well asfittings intended to be assembled with soldering materi-alsconforming to ASTM B 32,brazing materialsconforming to AwS A5.8,or with tapered pipe threadconforming to ASME B1.20.1.
This Standard is allied with ASME B16.18,whichcovers cast copper alloy pressure fittings. It providesrequirements for fitting ends suitable for soldering.ThisStandard covers:
(a) pressure-temperature ratings;
(b) abbreviations for end connections;
(c) size and method of designating openings of fit-tings;
(d) marking;
(e) material;
(f) dimensions and tolerances;and
(g) tests.
1.2 Convention
For the purpose of determining conformance withthis Standard, the convention for fixing significant digitswhere limits (maximum or minimum values) are speci-fied shall be rounding off as defined in ASTM E 29.This requires that an observed or calculated value shallbe rounded off to the nearest unit in the last right-hand digit used for expressing the limit.
1.3 Units of Measure
The values stated in either Sl (metric) or U.S.customary (in.-lb) units of measure shall be regardedseparately as standard. Within the main text,sI unitsare given. For convenience,the customary units areshown in Mandatory Appendix I1. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents;therefore,each system shall be used independently of the other.NOTE: Combiningvalues from the two systems may result innonconformance with the Standard.
1.4 References
Standards and specifications adopted by reference inthis Standard are shown in Mandatory Appendix III.lt is not considered practical to identify the specificedition of each standard and specification in the individ-ual references. Instead,the specific edition referenceis identified in Appendix IIl.
1.5 Quality Systems
Requirements relating to the product manufacturer’squality system program are described in NonmandatoryAppendix B.
2 PRESSURE-TEMPERATURE RATINGs2.1 Rating of Fittings and Joints
The internal working pressure-temperature rating fora solder-joint system is dependent upon not only fittingand tube strength,but also composition of the solderused for the joint and selection of valves and appurte-nances.
Pressure-temperature ratings for solder joints to thedimensions of Table 3 (Table I13),made with typicalcommercial solders,are given in Table I1 (Table l14).The internal working-pressure rating of the systemshall be the lowest of the values shown in Table 1(Table IIl) and Table 11 (Table I4), and those of thetube,valves,or appurtenances.
2.2 Bursting Strength
Fittings manufactured to the Standard shall have anambient temperature bursting strength of at least fourtimes the 38 C ( 100°F) rated internal working pressureas shown in Table 1 (Table I1l).
