DESIGN AND cONSTRUCTIONSTANDARDS
(a)LP-Gas fuel cylinders shall be constructed ofsteel or aluminum and shall conform to the appropriateASME,Department of Transportation(DOT). andTransport Canada(TC) Standards. DOT and TC cylin-ders shall have a minimum service pressure rating of240 psi (16 bar).
NOTE:Ncwly constructed cylinders used in Canada require TCemarkings.Cylinders manafaciuredi to TC standards contain metricnarkings. Cylinders used in the United Sates reuine DOT markingsSone cylinders are manufucttuared and dual marked to allow fillingand use in hoth cournries le.g..DOT-4BA240-TC4BAM16.
(b)LPG fuel cylinders shall be constructed to engagea substantial positioning pin or an equivalent rmeansto provide for intended positioning of the cylinder.(See Fig. I. G.)
(c) LPG fuel cylinders shall be filled (see Table l)by weight only or by either weight or volume.
(d) LPG fuel cylinders. which can be filled by eitherweight or volume. shall have a fixed tiquid level gauge.
MARKINGs
Cylinders shall be marked in accordance withNFPA 58.
6 DIMENSIONAL DETALL (See Fig. 1)
(a)Pressure relief device with captive rain cap shaildischarge at 45 deg.from horizontal with cylinder in horizontal or vertical position. Relief valve dischargeshall be provided with clear passage without impingingon headl ring. Relie valve inlet shall conLacL vaporspace of filled cylinder when mounted horizontally orvertically.
(b) Hand hole may be enlarged from point of contactwith the cylinder to curl on top side to maintain a 1-in.(25-mm)clearance for liquid service shut-off deviceextended eenterline within window arca.
(c)A liquid service shut-off valve shall be installedand it shall have a flow check valve. The valve handleshall be marked “liquid shut-off valve.” with“close””and “open” directions denoted by arrows. Location ofthis valve shall provide free hand clearance with head ring and adjacent fittings.Liquid withdrawal tube shallbe located to allow maximum practical emptying of(ak in Iorizonntal or ventical pusitiou.
(d) Universal cylinder float gauge position shall beoptional.
(e) Fixed liquid level gauge and identification shallbe required for volume filling (location optional).(f Quick fill valve (optional),when provided, shallterminate fill tube in upper 20% of the cylinder. Positionand tubc contour shall be optional.
(g Cylinder positioning pin hole.
(h Vapor withdrawal port, not used for poweredindustrial trucks.
